About
The Department of Education, Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya is one of the oldest Departments which started functioning from the Academic Session 2014-2015. The first programme introduced in the Department was a full-fledged semester-wise Masters in Education Programme with a batch of 39 students. In the year 2017 the Department has initiated the M. Phil Programme which was followed by Ph.D Programme in 2018 in order to develop a research orientation among the students, research scholars and faculty members, train them in research methodology and make original contribution to the field of Educational Research. Currently, the Department has also introduced the undergraduate Programme of B.A. (Major) in Education from 2019 onwards. The Department has been relentlessly striving to achieve excellence and innovation in its academic programmes with the introduction of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).
The Department also indulges in many co-scholastic activities like conducting Happiness and Well-Being Classes, counselling, mentor-mentee, guidance sessions, Intra-departmental quizzes, debates, peer teaching classes, group discussions etc. from time to time, organizing coaching classes for Competitive Examinations Orientation Classes, for the benefit of the students and research scholars. The Department is well-furnished with 4 Smart Classrooms, a Psychological Laboratory, Departmental Faculty Rooms and a small Library of its own. It is indeed an effervescent Department full of life with a youthful environment performing various types of activities both inside and outside the classroom.
The Department also publishes an Annual Bi-lingual handwritten magazine ‘Vidyanaam of all Education’ and a wall magazine ‘Mimamsa’ which provides a unique platform for the students to nurture their creative talents and pursuits.

- Admission Programme:
Eligibility for Admission to B.A. (Major) Programmes: A student who passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, or any equivalent examination recognised as such by the University shall be eligible for admission to the First Semester of the Six Semester B.A. (Major) programme.
Eligibility for Admission to M.A. Programmes in Education: (The courses are offered in Choice Based Credit System (CBCS): At least 45% marks in Major in the subject concerned or at least 50% marks in the subject concerned having on aggregate of at least 45% marks in B.A.
Eligibility for Admission in M.Phil. Programme: A candidate for admission to the programme leading to the Degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) must have passed the Post-Graduate Examination of this University or any other University/Institute recognised as equivalent by this University securing a minimum of 55% marks in the subject in which he/she intends to pursue the course. 5% of marks in the eligibility norms shall be relaxed for the candidates of the reserved category. Under special circumstances a candidate may be allowed by the Research Council on recommendation of the Departmental Research Committee to pursue the course in a subject other than one in which he/she obtained Master’s Degree, provided that the Research Council is satisfied that the branches are interrelated and the candidate is competent to undertake the programme in the particular subject.
Eligibility for Admission in Ph.D. Programme: Persons with post-graduate degree from any recognized University Institute with at least 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA). 5% of marks in the eligibility norms shall be relaxed for the candidates of the reserved category.
- Persons working in national institutes /government / private organization nominated / sponsored by the respective employer. These persons should have recognized Post-Graduate degree, with minimum marks required.
- Above-noted rules will also be applicable to overseas candidates who have obtained masters degree from the statutory Indian / foreign Universities.
- Application for research in interdisciplinary subject areas and from applicants belonging to the faculty or subject other than the faculty or subject in which the research project is proposed to be undertaken shall be considered on the basis of the proven competence of the candidate. Application for such research projects will be meticulously examined by the research supervisor and the Research Advisory Committee of the department concerned, subject to approval by the Vice-Chancellor, MSSV.
- Admission for foreign students with 55% marks in the Master Degree or equivalent CGPA, relevant Passport and Visa, may be considered, subject to the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, MSSV.
- During the pendency of the Ph.D. programme the candidate shall not pursue any more parallel programme or course.

Departmental Activities:
Department of Education has continuously organises different activities for the all-round development of the learners such as debate competition and group discussion of course content as well as on other contemporary issues, quiz competition, extempore speech competition, presentation by the students, motivational videos and educational movie screening, field work, educational tour as a part of course work.
