YOGIC SCIENCE AND NATUROPATHY

About

Department of Yogic Science and Naturopathy was established in Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, Nagaon on 7th August 2015 with One Year Programme- Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga with 12 students. In the academic year 2016-17, 11 students were admitted for P.G. Diploma in Yoga.

The Department shifted from Nagaon to Guwahati Campus in July 2017. Department started Master Degree programme in Yogic Science and Naturopathy, first time in the North East Indian with 15 students. 29 students were admitted for the P.G. Diploma programme.

In the academic session 2018-19, Department started Ph.D. programme to extend the research activities in the field of Yoga.

From academic session 2020-21, Department started part-time Certificate/Diploma program in Yoga to benefit the common people.

At present Department of Yogic Science and Naturopathy is offering various programmes viz. Ph.D., M.Phil., M.A./M.Sc. and  Part-time Certificate/Diploma in Yoga.

The main objective of the programmes is to train young, energetic and intelligent graduates in the art, science and philosophy of Yoga and Nature-Cure for gaining self-control and self-confidence and for unfolding latent potentialities in them and to get them well-grounded in a cultural synthesis so that they may, not only strive to lead a richer and well-integrated life themselves, but also help others to attain the same through physical and mental culture. It is expected that the youths, so trained, will not only transform themselves to healthy persons in the true sense of the term, but also contribute to bring harmony, peace and amity among the individuals and societies, torn to pieces by economic, political and communal conflicts, by bringing a marked transformation of their attitude towards each other. Leading a yogic way of life in day to day living will definitely bring a positive change in the lifestyle which will contribute to holistic health of the individual and the society as well.

Another objective of the programmes offered by the Department of Yogic Science and Naturopathy is to produce a quality Yoga Teacher who will themselves lead a yogic way of life and teach students in schools and colleges and youths in the society ‘theory and practice of yoga’, thereby not only contribute to the physical, mental and moral well-being of the students and youths but also contribute to bring positive change in the presently prevailing lifestyle among them.
