About

 

The Department of English, MSSV, Nagaon established in July, 2016 currently offers B.A. Major, Masters, M. Phil and Ph. D Programmes, syllabuses of which are researched, meticulously planned, constantly updated to meet national and international standard, and Course Structure adheres to latest UGC guidelines on Choice Based Credit System. It aims to develop keen academic environment that helps nurture every student and build confidence to utilize his/her knowledge and potentiality. In addition to imparting quality education the department prepares students to form holistic attitude by moulding their minds into intellectually competent, morally upright, socially committed and spiritually inspired beings.

The department organizes seminars, lecture programmes etc. on a regular basis and engages itself with inter-disciplinary activities. Literary Society, Library Committee, Students Advisory Committee having student participation helps them develop leadership quality. Apart from intensive class room teaching teachers are engaged in research and publications.

Achievements and Activities:

Two Ph. D scholars -Sugandhyashree Bhattacharjee and Rupashree Dutta presented papers in the Applied Research International Conference held in the University of Oxford on 24th-25th February, 2020.

Successfully conducted two national seminars one on “IDENTITY AND CRITICAL PRAXIS :LITERARY AND PHILOSOPICAL PERSPECTIVES” and the other on LITERATURE AND MARGINALITY in collaboration with the department of Philosophy and  Asssamese respectively. Organized two talks one on “Romanticism, Ecoconsciousness and “Rousseau””  by Prof. B.C.Dash and the other on “Women in the Historical Juncture” by Dr. Arupa Patangia Kalita.

 1.B.A ENGLISH (MAJOR)

  •  About the Programme-
  •  Admission Procedure: Purely on merit basis following University rules communicated from time to time to conform Government guidelines.

         Sufficient ahead of the admission date notices and advertisements in local newspapers , website, social media etc. are made.

2.B.A (MAJOR) 

The Department offers BA English (Major) Programme at Under Graduate level based on latest UGC structure of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). There are a total of 14 (fourteen) Core Courses that a student is required to take across six semesters. All the Core Courses are compulsory. There shall be four Courses of Generic Elective (GE) distributed across first four semesters (one in each semester). In addition to Core and Generic Courses, a student of B.A. (Major) shall choose four Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) Courses, two in each last two semesters. Students are also to offer two Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC) distributed in first two semesters. Apart from it, a student is to offer two Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) spread across third and forth semesters.

3.M.A. ENGLISH 

Programme Objectives:

Programme Objectives are what knowledge, skill and attitude a post-graduate student from this university should have at the end of the programme, The objectives are that in addition to knowledge acquired in some Open Elective Courses, a post graduate from the university should have acquired sound knowledge of British literature, American literature, literature in English in post-colonial countries, critical and literary theories and English Language Teaching; how to write research articles/papers apart from acquiring effective  communication and efficiency in soft skills for meeting the challenges of globalization and has developed  such attitude for holistic development of personality.

4.PhD/M.Phil

The Programme aims to develop critical thinking by encouraging scholars to undertake systematic investigation by way of critical observation, examining, thinking, questioning, and to find an answer to a given problem and reach new conclusion that holds true at least for the given space. The programme offers major thrust areas such as British Literature, American Literature and Indian Literatures for research topics.
